For nearly three decades, Adriana Hill has built her career around beauty. But talk with her for a few minutes and it becomes clear that what she is creating has never been only about hair. Today, Adriana Hill Salon & Co. is a boutique Tucson salon known for custom color, Invisible Bead Extensions, curly hair services, scalp treatments, and an experience intentionally designed around comfort and personal attention. Adriana describes the salon as a space where luxury and comfort can exist together, and where every guest is treated as more than an appointment on the schedule.

Now, Adriana is preparing for the next chapter of that vision: Sonoran Head Spa. In many ways, this next chapter brings her story full circle.

Finding the Work She Was Meant to Do

Adriana did not always know she would build a career in beauty. She loved fashion and originally dreamed of becoming a fashion designer. In college, she changed majors several times, often making decisions based on what seemed practical or what might lead to the most money. Eventually, she began thinking differently. Instead of asking what she should do, she started paying attention to what she was naturally good at.

She loved working with her hands. She loved creativity. She loved transformation. Beauty school began to make sense.

That decision eventually led Adriana to a two year apprenticeship that she still considers one of the most important experiences of her career. Mentorship gave her more than technical skills. It showed her what professionalism, culture, expectations, and investment in people could look like.

Then she set her sights even higher. While living in Dallas, Adriana researched the top salons in the city and began working her way through the list. Her goal was simple: if she was going to build a career in the industry, she wanted to learn from people doing it at the highest level.

She landed an opportunity at an Aveda salon, continued developing her craft, and eventually returned home to Tucson with a much clearer picture of what she wanted to build. Her salon website traces that professional journey from beauty school in Tucson, through apprenticeship and her time in Dallas, to ultimately building a business of her own.

Taking the Leap

Entrepreneurship often begins before someone feels completely ready. For Adriana, one of those moments came when she decided to lease her first salon space. She had only about ten clients, and there was no guarantee that the business would work. There was ambition, experience, and a decision that the time had come to try.

She remembers reaching a point in her life where the choice felt clear. She could keep waiting for the perfect moment, or she could take the leap.

“If I was going to do it, I had to do it now.”

So she did.

Adriana has been an entrepreneur since 2004. She spent 19 years building her business at her original location before making the move to her current location three years ago. That willingness to move forward, even before every piece was perfectly in place, became part of the foundation of the business she has today.

Her current salon has been home to the business for the past three years, but the ideas behind it were developed over a much longer journey. Adriana talks about culture as something you cannot always see, but you can feel. Adriana is especially proud of the incredible and diverse team she has built around her. Each person brings their own background, strengths, perspective, and personality to the salon, but they are connected by a shared commitment to hospitality, growth, and the experience they create together.

Adriana’s own career was shaped by serious mentorship, so as her business grows, creating those same opportunities for others matters deeply to her. Through the Juntos workforce development program, members of her growing team will have an opportunity to build the skills needed to support the new head spa experience.

That connection between business growth and workforce development is an important one. Expansion is not only about adding square footage, equipment, or services. She believes there is something powerful about intentionally allowing yourself to be unavailable for an hour or two. No calls, no list of things that still need to be done, and no guilt about resting. Just an opportunity to reset.

Adriana describes it as returning to a more natural rhythm of life, a chance to reconnect with yourself before stepping back into everything waiting outside the door.

The meaning behind Sonoran Head Spa became deeply personal through Adriana’s mother, Blanca. During her illness, Blanca was forced to slow down in a way life had never asked of her before. In that slower season, she began to experience life differently, with more presence, gratitude, and appreciation for the moments that can easily be missed when we are constantly moving.

At one point, Blanca told Adriana, “It was worth it.”

Those words stayed with her.

Adriana saw firsthand how powerful it could be to step outside the constant rhythm of work, responsibility, and expectation, but she also began asking why people so often wait until life forces them to stop. That idea became part of the heart behind Sonoran Head Spa.

Dedicated to Blanca, the space is meant to give people permission to slow down before they have to. To step away for an hour or two, be unavailable, rest without guilt, and reconnect with themselves. For Adriana, it is a way to carry forward something her mother discovered during an incredibly difficult chapter of her life: there can be real beauty in simply allowing yourself to be present.

To simply be.

There are expectations and assumptions that sometimes come with beauty and wellness spaces. Adriana wants Sonoran Head Spa to move beyond them. The experience will be centered on the guest, with service, hospitality, connection, and care woven into every part of the experience.

She wants someone walking into either the salon or the head spa to immediately understand that there is significant thought behind what happens there. The environment matters. The greeting matters. The consultation matters. The service matters. How someone feels when they leave matters.

That philosophy is already reflected in the salon’s public approach, which emphasizes individualized consultations, ongoing education, scalp health, specialized services, and an experience designed around each guest rather than simply completing a service.

It is a standard Adriana expects from herself and from the people growing alongside her.

Growth That Stays Connected to Community

Twenty-eight years in the beauty industry, Adriana is still learning. She credits the mentors who helped shape her early career and her husband, whose understanding of organizational culture has influenced the way she thinks about her own team. They have been married for 12 years, building a life together that also includes two dogs and, over time, countless conversations about leadership, people, and what makes a culture work.

Those influences are now finding their way into the next version of her business. Adriana wants Sonoran Head Spa to create another option for self care and relaxation in Tucson, but she is equally focused on how the business connects to the community around it.

That means developing strong relationships, creating opportunities for her team, continuing to learn, and being intentional about who comes alongside the business as it grows.
